About Edmonton's Oliver Neighbourhood

Oliver is one of the oldest residential communities in the City of Edmonton. The area is named after Frank Oliver, an early Edmonton resident, businessman, and politician. An inner-city neighbourhood, Oliver is located west of downtown and overlooks the North Saskatchewan River valley.

Located in the river valley south of Oliver are Edmonton's Royal Glenora Club, Victoria Golf Course, and Victoria Park. The High Level Bridge and Groat Bridge give residents access to locations on the south side, including the University of Alberta and Old Strathcona.

The south east portion of this district is also known as Grandin, with both Grandin LRT Station and Grandin School located in this part of the neighbourhood. Jasper Avenue, Edmonton's main avenue, bisects Oliver and provides shops, restaurants and other services.

The Edmonton Brewery District, in northwest Oliver, is an emerging redevelopment of the historic Molson Brewery and Crosstown Motors areas. It will provide retail and commercial space with both an historical and current approach, and provide a future link to the public transit corridor

Today, the community of Oliver is the largest by population, most economically, ethnically and demographically diverse neighbourhood in the City of Edmonton.
